Planning application webhooks
Receive source-linked planning changes inside your product, CRM or monitoring service. Evaluate the records with a free REST key; Developer includes one geographically scoped webhook, while Production supports broader delivery.
Newly observed records
An application.new event means PlanWire first observed the record, not necessarily that it was submitted today. Inspect application dates and historicalDiscovery before notifying users.
Changed records
Use application.updated and changedFields to inspect decisions and other captured changes, including document metadata when available. Keep the source link and observation time.
Recoverable delivery
Failed deliveries retry for up to 24 hours. Captured events are retained for at least 30 days while the webhook exists. Deleting it removes its event stream.
Evaluate one area before expanding
- Check council coverage and freshness, then inspect source-linked records with a free REST key. API availability and council-data freshness are separate measurements.
- On Developer, register a public HTTPS receiver scoped to a council or postcode prefix. Free keys cannot register webhooks. Match the sample against records your product actually needs.
- Verify signatures, store events durably and deduplicate by event ID. Test recovery after an interrupted connection using the PlanWire receiver reference. This is our example, not a customer implementation.
Read the delivery and recovery guide for cursor handling, retry limits and payload semantics. Recovery API calls consume your request allowance; webhook deliveries do not.
Webhook questions
Can PlanWire send planning application webhooks?
Yes. Developer includes one geographically scoped webhook; Production supports broader delivery. Free keys can inspect REST records but cannot register webhooks.
Can webhooks be combined with REST search?
Yes. REST lookup retrieves the current record. A separate cursor-based endpoint recovers captured webhook events; lookup alone does not replay historical payloads.
Can planning webhooks support watch-area alerts?
Yes. Filter delivery by councilId or postcodePrefix, with optional status and applicationType. Planning activity is not confirmation that construction has started or materials will be ordered.
